llms.txt generator and checker for ecommerce sites
For any online store: Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Wix, Squarespace, Magento or a site you built yourself.
llms.txt is a short text file at the root of a website that gives AI assistants a map of the site. This free tool checks whether your site has one and whether it follows the format, and writes one from what your site already publishes, for you to copy or download.
It reads only what your site already publishes. We do not save the address or the file.

What the result means
The tool reads yoursite.com/llms.txt and checks it against the format published at llmstxt.org. You get one of four answers:
- Set up correctly: your file follows the format. A generated version is there to compare, if you want one.
- Things to fix: your file is there but breaks the format, each problem in plain words, with a generated version as a starting point.
- Shopify serves this for you: the file is Shopify's own default. Shopify's docs say most stores do not need to replace it.
- No llms.txt: a generated file, with the steps to add it to your platform.
The generated file follows the same format:
- The first line is your site's name, and the quoted line under it is your home page's own meta description.
- Categories (or Collections on Shopify) lists up to 20 categories.
- Products lists up to 50 products from a Shopify or WooCommerce catalog, or the product pages in your sitemap.
- Policies lists the refund, shipping, privacy and terms pages your site links to.
- Optional lists your other pages, such as About or Contact, which an assistant may skip.
On a site with no catalog the tool can read, it reads up to 20 pages from your sitemap, categories first. Every word in the file comes from your site's own titles and descriptions. The tool writes no descriptions of its own, so a line with no description means the page has none.
What to fix
The file is only as clear as your site's own pages. Before you add it, check these on any platform:
- A meta description on your home page. Without one the file has no summary line.
- A clear title and meta description on each category and product page, so each line says what is behind it.
- A sitemap, named in robots.txt or at yoursite.com/sitemap.xml, so the tool can find your pages.
- Refund, shipping, privacy and terms pages linked from your home page, so the Policies section is complete.
On Shopify, the store's meta description is under Online Store, Preferences, and the policies under Settings, Policies. A product type on each product groups the products in a way a reader can follow.
Then run the tool again and add the new file.
How SourceVision helps
An llms.txt is a map; the product pages are what an assistant reads to describe what you sell. SourceVision measures how ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity describe your products and proposes changes to your pages that you approve before anything changes on your store.

What is llms.txt?
A plain text file in Markdown at the root of a website, such as yoursite.com/llms.txt, that gives AI assistants a short map of the site: its name, a one-line summary and links to its main pages. Jeremy Howard proposed the format in September 2024 at llmstxt.org. Only the title line is required; the summary and the link lists are optional.
Do AI assistants read llms.txt?
It is a proposal, not a standard, and llmstxt.org does not say which assistants read it. Some AI companies, among them OpenAI and Anthropic, publish an llms.txt for their own developer documentation, but none has said that its shopping answers use a store's llms.txt. The file is small and quick to add, and robots.txt still decides which crawlers may read your pages.
Which platforms does it work with?
Any site that answers on the public web. It recognizes Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Wix, Squarespace, Magento and PrestaShop from the pages it reads, and reads any other site from its sitemap and its pages' own titles and descriptions.
Where does the file go?
At yoursite.com/llms.txt, in your site's root folder. Shopify serves a default file there for every online store, built from its agents.md, and Wix writes one for sites on a premium plan with a connected domain. The result shows the steps for your platform.
Does the file change when my site changes?
No. It is a copy of what your site published when you ran the tool. When you add categories, products or policies, run the tool again and replace the file.
Is this tool free?
Yes. There is no sign-up. The tool reads your site's public pages once and shows the result in your browser window. It does not save the address or the file; it counts only which platform the site runs on.
