How it works

Measured, approved, applied and checked

SourceVision measures the AI visibility of your products: how AI assistants (ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity) describe them. Where an answer is thin or wrong, it proposes a listing fix. You approve each proposal, and the app applies it and checks that it landed.

What the app measures

The app asks ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity the questions your shoppers ask, and records how each one describes and recommends your products.

AI answers vary between runs; we report the range, so you know what moved and what is noise.

Every answer the app collects is kept, so your scores can be re-checked.

Your flow in the app

The app opens inside your Shopify admin. Five screens take a product from measured to applied and checked.

  1. 1

    Intake

    Answer a few short questions about your brand to start the first research.

  2. 2

    Products

    Mark your lead product and the products you want to promote, then run research for each product.

  3. 3

    Proposals

    Each proposal is one part of the SourceVision block or one Google description, and its page shows everything the change will send.

  4. 4

    Approve

    Approve the proposal, or leave it. Nothing is written to your store before this step.

  5. 5

    Activity

    The app applies the approved change, reads the product back, and marks it applied and checked once your store shows it.

What the app reads

The app asks Shopify for three permissions: read products, write products and read themes. With them it reads:

  • Products: titles, descriptions, images and their alt text, options, variants, tags, product type and category, the Google title and description, and metafields.
  • Product pages: the public product pages of your storefront, as a shopper or an AI assistant would see them.
  • Theme list: your themes and the structure of your product template, so the app can show you where to place the SourceVision block. The app cannot change, publish or delete a theme.
  • Store and account details: your store name and domain, and the Shopify user ID of each staff account that installs or opens the app.
  • What you tell us: the answers you give in Intake about your brand and products.

The app does not read customer data or orders. It does not request Shopify's customer or order permissions.

What the app writes, only after you approve

Nothing is written to your store before you approve a proposal. After approval the app may write:

  • the product description;
  • the product's Google title and description (when one is changed, the other is re-sent unchanged, and the preview shows both);
  • the app's own product metafields (namespace sourcevision);
  • the content of the SourceVision block, stored in those metafields and shown by the block once you place it in your theme.

After each write the app reads the product back to check that the change landed, and records the result in Activity with what it replaced. A change that does not check out is recorded as failed, not as applied.

The app never writes medical or outcome claims, and it does not edit fixed product text such as directions or ingredients. The full list is in the privacy policy, sections 3 and 4.

The SourceVision block on your storefront

Approved FAQ content appears on your product page through the SourceVision block. It shows only the parts you approved, in five parts:

  • What is it
  • Who is it for
  • How does it work
  • How is it different
  • Questions from shoppers

You add the block once: open Online Store, Themes, Customize, go to a product template and add the SourceVision block from the Apps section.

Publishing a theme is your act. The app never publishes, edits or deletes a theme.
